Story Title: My Grandma
By: Laralyn Montanez
My grandmother taught me so many lessons, but the lessons I learned in her final days have changed my life. I learned about courage, strength, hope, despair, happiness, love and above all things, faith. Miracles happen. Some large, some small; but all of them are significant. In the end, we were able to tell one another how much we loved each other. She was my dearest friend and my biggest fan. I am going to spend the rest of my life attempting to be the woman she believed I could be. She has always been and will always be my angel.

Brenda Hart Merklin says
Pam and Debbie I’m so sorry about your Mom’s passing. My Dad passed away in Feb 2010. I still live in Greenwood. My husband passed away in 2005 of a head bleed. Mom is still living in her house. Take care and I will be praying for you.
Love
Brenda

Remembering Mary Merklin:
At one time, just a few years ago, Mary was a very vibrant, active, outgoing, devoted church member. I met her when I joined Circle Five (at Northminster Presbyterian) and she was the leader. In those days, we studied the Bible together, collected items for charity, held bake sales, had huge dinners for the church. The women cooked. Lucille Auble was in charge of meals for bereaved families and the women of the church brought their dishes to provide for these meals. The women of the church brought their items for the bake sales, made up of their favorite recipes. Mary was famous for her cookies, which she loved to bake. The church remodeled the kitchen, a beautiful cooking workshop.
Times change, and we make adjustments to accommodate for the changes. Our ladies are aging and the younger women of the church have children to care for, some working to supplement the family income. We still have Dinners, however, we have discovered some very good caterers to help us out.
MaryGÇÖs diabetes was taking over and she had to step down and take special care of herself. Her eyes became dimmed and she moved away from the area.
Mary, with the help of her daughter, moved back into our lives, trying to keep her independence going. She went down fighting, with several trials and difficulties.
We will miss her dearly.
